What Would Maev Do?

Nice Day for a White Wedding

I don’t really no where today’s article came from.  Invariably it starts off with me trying to make an outfit.  I thought I would do some dancing tonight, but half-way through changing, I decided to go check out new releases.  So I put on the fishnets and darkened my makeup.  That’s when the Billy Idol song started looping in my head.  So now I want to talk about some of the new stuff I have gotten recently.

This pose is free from Olive Juice at the Pose Fair on Shisei.  The skin is Laqroki’s newest creation, Elena.  I have to be honest and say that though this skin is impressive, I did notice one flaw and that is that while the body has the typical Laq pigment, the face has a lot less yellow in it which makes face and body subtly mismatched.  Of course this is no issue considering I bought all ten makeups for under $2000L.  It’s still stunning!

What I wear when I’m dancing with myself…

XStreet is for Lovers

I pride myself on being progressive when it comes to customs, taste, and technology, but there are times when I myself drag my feet.  I certainly am not the first person to try something new (because I know that it is often the case that first time technology comes with a long list of grievances), but I never want to be the last, or even one of the last, to try something.

This time I am referring to the online marketplace for Second Life, XStreet.  Three years into the game and I flat out refused to use the thing.  I have always loved using the search algorithm inworld and going from store to store in order to get that vibe that comes with shopping.  However, even I change my mind about most things and XStreet is no different.

My turning point was when I was planning my wedding.  I was getting so frustrated going from one wedding store to another and not seeing what I wanted.  How do you search for burgundy flower arrangements and sculpted prim bouquets?  I must admit that a lot of things I used for the wedding was either found or purchased on XStreet.  It was just so… convenient.

If ever I need something obscure or specific, the search usually does a good job sifting through the tens of thousands of items sold on XStreet.  I use it to find costumes and scripts.  I even found my house on XStreet and even though I still like to buy things in SL (I tend to choose XStreet items that are also sold inworld and then go there) I am increasingly finding myself relying on XStreet.  Now I will visit almost everyday even when I am not looking for anything particular; just like I used to do inworld.  There are no rez times, no lag, and the deals are amazing.  I have bought beautifully crafted shoes for under 50L and furnished skyboxes for under 100L.  I truly never know what wonderful thing will be sold next and I can spend days browsing.

And the convenience just got better now that all linden transfers do not have to be done at a kiosk in Second Life but in your XStreet account online.  So today’s post features some of the things that I have bought online.

The motif today is clubbing.  I enjoy the music scene and put on something that’s fashionable, sexy, and moves well.  The Xstreet items that I bought on a whim because they were so inexpensive were the red boots and the black dress.  I also bought Truth’s Brit hair online because of the almost guaranteed crowd that always shops inworld.

Au Naturale

My personality being as it is, my fashion style is adaptive.  There is so many things that I like that I often put on a persona at any given time.  I could decide to get all glammed up and put on dramatic makeup, expensive clothing, and overly fussed hair.  Then I sometimes like more earthy, natural looks with natural fibers and wavy hair.  Don’t get me wrong… there are a few things I choose not to wear and they will become clearer as I blog more and more, but for this post I wanted to examine what Maev Ceawlin is underneath.  What do I like to wear when no one’s looking?

Yesterday I worked on that look and I was inspired by the movie Mad Max.  The barren, desert landscape and the desolation of the lone road, cutting through that desert.  I spent a lot of my childhood in the Mojave desert in California.  100° weather that would blister the skin.  Country blaring out the car stereo ’cause you had the all the windows rolled down.  To the west the Sierra Nevada’s stood out, blocking the clouds and the rain from coming to save you from the dry air, and to the east was more desert;  made you feel parched just thinking about it.

I like the grunge look because it beats keepin’ things clean.  When I put this persona on, I feel bitchy and in control.  It sums up all my inner demons and idiosyncrasies.  It’s also very comfortable to just put on jeans and a t-shirt, letting go of the need for makeup and mousse.  The tattoos just add to the masculinity of the look.  It comes across as “I don’t give a sh*t.”

Now for the technical crap:

The hair is Aden‘s Madison in Hazel.  I love how it comes in two parts so you don’t get all the stiffness that comes with hair that doesn’t have a lot of flexi to it.

My favorite tattoos to wear are from Canimal.  I actually like the style of Inflict’s tattoos more, but the feature of the tattoo is usually in the middle of the back and I find it hard to dress that.  The one I’m wearing is very versatile and so I tend to wear it the most.

The T is new from JP Designs.  I noticed it when I was over there getting some cargo pants.  It’s in the style of Che Guevara but instead has a monkey and the phrase “Viva La Evolucion.”  I pick tees I relate to, and since I am a biologist, this does that in a big way.

Jeans I’ve had for awhile and they come from League.  If you don’t know what that is, then you are missing out, because her designs are wonderful and complement my rock n’ roll lifestyle.

The boots is what inspired me to do this Mad Max theme.  They are worn and filthy and I love them.  Nothing says “I’ve been places” more than these Redgrave boots.

I would like to thank Alex Stross for providing me for so long with glimpses of home.
